Well maybe with the auto tips, they can get away with and service and food. But how can they continue to do business, I wonder. Fine dining at its finest, yet very reasonably priced. Perfectly prepared steaks and sides, tastefully presented by well-dressed serving staff in the most elegant dining room. Best Chicken Fried Steak ever tasted! A true San Francisco experience enjoyed, especially with the admirable host, Al Petri, in the front of the house. The steak and courses were perfectly prepared and enjoyed in the grandeur of classic San Francisco with all its history.
Perfect steaks at a surprisingly reasonable price and perfect martinis. A reasonable rib eye steak comes with two sides, a small salad and an antipasto cold cuts and cheese so from a value stand point is not bad. Best steaks at incredible value. This place is equal to the best east coast steakhouses. Also very reasonable prices and great quality.
Full course dinner for the price of the average naked steak. By far, the best in the Bay Area. All steaks are dry aged. So glad Alfred's is back under the original management. Perfectly cooked tender steaks with delicious sides. The menu is simple but well thought out. Bar has a great selection of whiskeys. Really enjoyed the rejuvenated Alfred's, we had an excellent meal.
All of our food allergies were handled perfectly. We can't wait to return soon. Our server Jeff was great. Highly Recommend a visit. I came here almost a year and a half ago.
I remember the fine tasting steaks and wine. Now, the experience is the opposite. The menu has changed. The food and service is terrible. I wondered if this was the same restaurant? Sadly, I will never return and will seek a better steakhouse in the city. A class act. Great food from top to bottom. I love this place. It is such a classic place. It's just how a steakhouse should look. We are so glad it is back in the hands of the old owners. The wait staff, as it has always been, is very professional.
They know when to take your plates, and when to leave them until everybody at the table is done eating. Everything we had was excellent, except the cream spinach, which has always been my favorite here, was not as creamy as I remember it.
The menu is about the same as the original old one, except that they took away the wonderful baked potatoes with all the fixin's, and added a smashed red potato. That red one doesn't old a candle to the old big baker.
They have added a complimentary meat and cheese board that goes quite well with your Martini's or Manhattans. Speaking of Martini's, It is great to get a Martini served with a shaker that has more Martini in it. Salads are as good as ever. Desserts looked really good, but we were just too stuffed. They have a few kinks to smooth out Hint: creamier, and bakers , but when I want to splurge a little, this is my place. Don't bring your Vegan friends unless they are open minded.
Where in S. Nowhere that I can think of. Loved the waiter Michael Food is excellent! The price is inclusive, the gratuity is added. Loved decor old SF imagine men drinking martinis and smoking cigars. A Winston Churchill image.!!!! Sheila Zarb-Harper Ph. Told her. Not return with hot coffee Hung around letting me know tip was split Awkward as I felt I had to Leave more. A wonderful experience. Excellent cocktails, food, service and ambience.
What a delightful time we had. We will be back soon. My husband ordered his steak rare, and got medium rare, and the wait for a new steak to be fired up was ridiculous.
Other than that, the food and restaurant were lovely. It is nice to see an old world steakhouse in the city. So much of what you find now is very fancy trying to too much to the meat. My wife and friends are going to dress up in Goodfellas wear and go enjoy a steak like in the old days. The wait staff is funny and very nice. If your a snob or like to Instagram the latest stuff, you won't like it. If you want a good piece of meat in a classy joint - this place is for you! Real grass-fed and aged beef.
Cooked just right. A good value as appetizer, salad, sides are all included in the price. The martinis are also large and good. All great value for an SF restaurant. Ribeye was overcooked and underseasoned, which was unexpected for a steak house. Certainly enjoyed my dinner at Alfred's and having Al there to greet everyone.
I love this steakhouse and I think the new management the return of the previous management is doing a great job. This place is great for a date or a business meal. I'm so glad to see that Alfred's is back.
It's like time travel to the swank era of San Francisco, with crystal chandeliers, red leather booths and waiters in ties. Jack Kerouac wrote about having martinis at the bar at Alfred's in "On the Road. The latest menu has you pick your cut of meat, and then everything else comes with it under that one price. They start with a charcuterie for the table, then your choice of a starter salads or shrimp cocktail , plus two side dishes and your choice of a sauce with your steak.
It's a pretty simplified menu, also evocative of the past, but a remarkable value for San Francisco these days. The ribeye I had was outstanding and perfectly cooked.
The french fries are miraculous. Great service , Great steak, the new simplified menu is a great value! Alfred's is back in all of its old-school glory. The previous owner put a bit of an updated concept on top of Old School SF, which was an odd fit.
It was a replica of the old place, but with a dinner-as-theatre gloss. And the menu was a little fussy. I guess it wasn't successful and luckily, common sense prevailed. Now, the menu is much simpler than even the old Alfred's with a prix fixe menu. The only thing that changes is what cut of meat you want. You get dependable small bites charcuterie , your choice of salad or prawns, cut of meat and traditional sides and dressings.
Cocktails are great, desserts choice of two and only two are delicious, so there's no going wrong. The room is a step back into the 50s and the only true representation of a classic steakhouse in the City. Then there's the waitstaff. The crew is all out of central casting--wonderfully, endearingly quirky and make you feel instantly at home. I wanted to hug 'em all and take them home.
All in all, a sigh of relief that one of the very best, least complicated, dependable experiences in SF is back, even better than it used to be. Go, go often, and bring your friends. We love you, Alfred's! Food was not very good. Food needed salt. Alfred's Steakhouse is rated 4. Skip to Main Content. Sign up Sign in. San Francisco Bay Area. Full List of Metros.
